Nevada’s casino industry is evolving as top operators focus on off-Strip developments, including the new Circa 2 and Boyd Gaming’s Cadence Crossing. These projects mark a shift in growth strategies, targeting local and suburban markets while offering unique experiences to tourists.
Circa 2: Downtown Las Vegas Expansion
Downtown Las Vegas is preparing for the arrival of Circa 2, set to expand the downtown gaming scene in a big way. Announced by Mayor Shelley Berkley during the 2025 State of the City address, Circa 2 will be developed on a 6.42-acre site, reflecting the operator’s confidence in downtown Las Vegas as an alternative to the Strip.
The Legacy of Circa Resort & Casino
The original Circa Resort & Casino, which opened in 2020, has already established downtown Las Vegas as a player in the gaming world. Its performance has justified the construction of a second Circa property, signaling downtown Las Vegas’ ongoing appeal to both locals and tourists.
Boyd Gaming’s Cadence Crossing in Henderson
Boyd Gaming has started construction on Cadence Crossing, its first new casino in Southern Nevada in 20 years. Set in Henderson and adjacent to the Cadence master-planned community, this project aims to cater to a growing local population.
Key Features of Cadence Crossing
- 50,000-square-foot gaming space
- 450 slot machines
- Multiple food and beverage outlets
- Modern casino entertainment experiences
Boyd Gaming hosted a groundbreaking ceremony on April 3, 2025, with executives and local leaders, including Henderson Mayor Michelle Romero. The facility is expected to open by mid-2026.
Strategic Market Adaptation
Cadence Crossing will replace Boyd’s Jokers Wild Casino, which will operate during construction. Once the new facility is completed, Jokers Wild will be demolished for additional parking and future expansion. Planned phases include the addition of a hotel and expanded dining options, as the Cadence area grows toward its target of 12,000 homes.
Off-Strip Growth: A Strategic Industry Shift
Both Circa 2 and Cadence Crossing reflect a notable trend: Nevada casino operators are pursuing growth opportunities beyond the Las Vegas Strip. With suburbs expanding and downtown revitalization continuing, the future holds significant potential for new developments that cater to diverse audiences and growing local populations.
